Here's the thing nobody tells you: the problem usually isn't the mesh system. It's that mesh was never designed for the home you actually live in.

First, let's be fair to mesh

Mesh Wi-Fi — Eero, Google Nest, Orbi and the rest — is genuinely good technology. Where mesh hits a wall — literally

Los Angeles homes are a special case, and it comes down to two things: what they're made of, and how they're laid out. A huge number of LA houses were built with lath-and-plaster walls — and older plaster is often backed by a metal mesh (the "lath") that quietly murders Wi-Fi signal. Add stucco exteriors, plaster ceilings between floors, and the occasional brick fireplace, and you've got a building that fights your router at every turn. Drywall lets signal through; LA plaster does not.

Then there's the layout. Sprawling ranch homes, multi-level hillside houses, detached garages and ADUs, long hallways — these spread coverage thin fast.

And here's the technical catch that mesh marketing skips: most mesh pods talk to each other over Wi-Fi (called wireless backhaul). Every time your signal hops from one pod to the next, it loses speed — often half of it. Put a plaster wall between two pods and that hop gets weak and unreliable. You end up with "full bars" that still can't hold a video call.
